All Locked Up

The first weekend in June, Mario went to Chicago for a quick trip, so the boys and I were on our own. Sunday morning, we went to church, then we made a stop at Snip-Its to get Anthony's hair cut. We were already pushing it time-wise for lunch and naps--by the time we finally made it home, the boys were starving and exhausted from the long morning.  I sent Anthony to the potty while I prepared a quick lunch.  Apparently, he was trying to barricade Lucas from entering the bathroom, and he decided not only to close but also to lock the door.  He knows how to work a lock, but he just couldn't seem to get the knob unlocked.  So, once I hear the banging on the door and Anthony's little voice hollering, "Mommy, I'm stuck!" I knew exactly what had happened!!!  I tried to talk him through it, but to no avail.

So, naturally, I try to call my husband to see what I need to do, but he's out of pocket.  Then I called my dad who tried to talk me through a couple more ideas, but nothing seemed to work.  Then I did what any normal person (?) would do--I took the doorknob off!  I was thinking that I could just manually release the lock with my fingers or some tools, but I just didn't really know what I was doing.  At this point I was seriously considering trying to take the door off the hinges!!!
Here's my sweet baby peeking through the removed knob.

He remained very calm--I was so proud.  As I mentioned above, he was so hungry and couldn't come out for lunch, so I slid some blueberries and some pretzels under the door.  His response?  "Oh, thank you so much, mama, for this special treat!"  (what a sweet boy).  In the meantime, I was trying to get Lucas fed and down for his nap and figure out what I needed to do.

At one point, I heard the water running in the bathroom and peeked in the hole to see the sink filled up to the brim with water.  I guess the poor boy was bored and needed some entertainment!  He was in there for over an hour!  I finally called one of our good friends and Mario's co-worker, Kit, who happens to be a handyman extraordinaire.  He came over and rescued Anthony with a quick pop of the lock!  (Don't you just love it when someone else can make it look so easy?!?)  Well, I was relieved, and Anthony was happy to be free!  Now we officially have a "don't shut the door" rule until further notice!!!
